Frankfurt Airport is the busiest airport by passenger traffic in Germany as well as the 4th busiest in Europe. 65 millions passengers pass through its doors each year. The airport is located 13 km (8 miles) from Frankfurt city center.

Frankfurt Airport has multiple shower options for you to choose from. You can use the public showers which can be found in both terminals. Find them at:

  • Terminal 1 A, level 2, near Gate A 50

  • Terminal 1 B, level 2, in front of the security checkpoint, shopping boulevard (5 a.m. - 11 p.m.)

  • Terminal 1 B, level 3, transit area, near "Kuffler & Bucher" (5 a.m. - 11 p.m.)

  • Terminal 1 Z, level 3, near Gate Z 50

  • Terminal 2 D, level 3, near Gates D 5-8

These showers cost €6 and this price includes a towel and toiletries. The showers are open from daily 06:00 – 23:00.

Meditate in the Room of Silence

Frankfurt Airport has lots of amenities focused on improving the health and well-being of its traveling customers. The Room of Silence is a great spot to enjoy a few moments of stillness and contemplation before continuing your journey. For an alternative meditation experience, find the Silent Chairs located throughout the airport. These comfortable chairs are surrounded with soundproof glass and have built in speakers so that you can listen so some relaxing music.

There are also multiple Quiet Zones located throughout the airport so you can easily find a good spot to relax before your flight.

Stretch in the Yoga Rooms

Energize and centre yourself at Frankfurt Airport by taking advantage of one of two fully equipped yoga rooms. The yoga rooms are free of chrge and open 24 hours. Each room includes a full-length mirror wall, mats and a monitor showing yoga instruction videos with musical accompaniment. Yoga rooms are located in both terminals:

  • Terminal 1, post-security at Gates C 14 - C 16

Get some fresh air on the Open Air Deck

Enjoy some fresh air before boarding your flight by spending your airport downtime on the roof terrace. Enjoy comfortable seating and impressive views of the airfield. Open daily from 06:30 – 21:30.

Located in Terminal 1, above Gate B42, Level 3 (Non-Schengen).

If the weather is bad but you still want to get that outdoor feeling, there are multiple ‘Green Waiting Areas’ throughout the airport. Sit among the plants and trees as you wait for your flight and feel a bit closer to nature.

Catch a movie at Movie World

Head to Movie World next time you are at Frankfurt airport and catch a free movie or documentary before your flight. Sit back and relax with your traveling companions or by yourself and choose from hundreds of multilingual and family friendly series, movie and documentary options.

There are multiple locations throughout the airport. Find them at:

  • Terminal 1, Level 2, near Gate A58

  • Terminal 1, level 3, near gate Z58

  • Terminal 1, level 2, at Gate B42

Quick bite – Hausbar Terminal 1 A

If you are looking for a healthy snack before catching your flight head to Hausbar in Terminal 1A. This is a quick, grab-and-go spot with lots of healthy and delicious snacks to choose from. Get a refreshing juice or a revitalizing smoothie to take with you to the gate.

Sit down meal – Hausmann’s Terminal 1 A

If you have a bit more time to spare and want a sit-down meal head Hausmann’s (right next to Hausbar). The bistro serves seasonal cuisine, with everything cooked fresh right in front of you in this charming kitchen style bistro. Located after security in Terminal 1, Area A on Level 2.

Luggage Storage

There are short- and long-term luggage storage options at Frankfurt airport. Short-term storage is for a maximum of 3 hours and costs €5 per bag. Long-term storage costs €8 for one day and pricing varies depending on the size and weight of the luggage after that.

There are multiple luggage storage options at Frankfurt Airport. Find them at

  • T1, Area B, Level 1 (arrival). Open 24 hours.

  • T1, Area B-c, Level 2 (departure). Open 06:00 – 22:00.

  • T2, Area D, Level 2 (arrival). Open 06:00 – 22:00.

Go for a run at Schwanheimer Düne

The Schwanheimer Düne is a 58.5-hectare nature reserve located close to Frankfurt airport. The area has two paths which are great for walking or running and enjoying the scenery. Why not go for a run and then head back to the airport and freshen up using the public shower rooms?

The park is located 5.4 miles from the airport. Unfortunately, there are no direct public transport links to Schwanheimer Düne so your best option is hopping in a taxi.

Swim in the lake at Strandbad Langener Waldsee

Another great outdoor activity available close to Frankfurt airport is Strandbad Langener Waldsee. The lake is the largest leisure and recreation area in the Rhine-Main area. Lay in the sun on the 900 meters of sandy beach or take a dip in the swimming area. WC and shower facilities are available near the swimming area. Leave your luggage at the airport but don't forget to grab your swimming gear and head to Strandbad Langener Waldsee for a relaxing lakeside experience. Open from 08:00-20:30.

The park is located 5.1 miles from the airport. Unfortunately, there are no direct public transport links to Schwanheimer Düne so your best option is hopping in a taxi.

Head Downtown

There are lots of things to do in Frankfurt city. Frankfurt airport is located just 8 miles from Frankfurt city center and is well connected via public transport links. Visit museums, see amazing architecture, go on a river cruise and so much more. Drop your bags off at the luggage storage at the airport and spend your layover exploring the city.

Bus: Frankfurt Airport is served by several bus routes. Most buses can be caught in front of Terminal 1.

Train: Local, regional and international trainlines can be accessed from the Frankfurt Airport Railway Station. Catch the S8 or S9 train running to Hanau or Offenbach Ost to get downtown. These trains run 24hours and will get you downtown in approx. 11 minutes. Visit the DB Bahn website for more information.

Taxi: Taxi ranks can be found outside of both terminals and are available 24 hours.

Overnight Layover?

MY CLOUD Transit Hotel

International passengers with at least one non-Schengen flight can book into MY CLOUD Hotel without ever leaving the transit area. Rooms can be booked by the hour (min 3 hours). This is the only transit hotel available at Frankfurt, although there are multiple hotel options located just outside the airport.

Reception is open 24 hours however you can only check in between 05:00 and 22:00.

Located in Terminal 1, near Gate Z25. Located past security. You will need to have a valid boarding pass to access this location.
