Miami International Airport is the primary airport serving the Miami area, Florida. The airport is located 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Downtown Miami. It is South Florida's main airport for long-haul international flights and handles approx. 45 million passengers per year.

Free things to do at MIA

Meditate in the Multi-faith Chapel

A great way to get away from the chaos of the main terminal is to spend some time in the Multi-faith Chapel. Most airports will have multi faith prayer rooms available for traveling passengers to use. These are open, inviting spaces where guests are encouraged to be quiet and respectful and take some time for reflection. The Multi-faith Chapel is located in the North Terminal D on Level 1 between International Arrivals & Baggage Carousel 22.

Do some yoga in the Yoga Room

What better way to start your trip than by treating your body to a good stretch in the yoga room? It is the perfect spot to calm and centre yourself before you begin navigating your way through the airport.

Make the most of your time in the yoga room by following one of our movement routines designed specifically for frequent travelers. Quick Bite - The Counter

If you are looking for a tasty and quick bite to eat, head to The Counter in the North Terminal. Enjoy a delicious kale salad, a veggie club, homemade lemonade or create your own salad to eat at the airport or take with you on the plane. The Counter is located in the North Terminal, close to Gates D32 and D33. Open Monday to Sunday from 07:00 until 22:00.

Sit Down Meal - Ku-Va Restaurant & Bar

If you have more time to spend, treat yourself to a delicious sit-down meal Ku-Va Restaurant & Bar. The contemporary restaurant serves traditional Cuban meals. Savour the lechon (roast pork) or try their delicious ropa Viejas and fuel up before your flight. Ku-Va is located in the North Terminal, Concourse D - 2nd Level Departures. Open Monday to Sunday from 05:00 to 22:00.

Luggage storage at MIA

Baggage Checkroom / Storage

When leaving the airport, dragging heavy luggage with you is not ideal. Luckily, Miami International have a baggage checkroom where you can store your luggage. The Baggage Checkroom is located at Central Terminal E, Level 2 and is open from 05:00 to 21:00 daily.

Storage charges are subject to baggage size. Bags can be stored for up to a maximum of 60 days.

Long Layover at MIA

Doral Central Park

Rather than being stuck inside the airport, why not grab some fresh air at Doral Central Park? This 82-acre park is the largest in the city and home to major events such as the Independence Day Celebration. Its open green spaces and scenic lake views are ideal for escaping the airport for a few hours. Choose from completing a 9-mile jogging trail or one of the park’s exercise stations. The park is open from Monday to Friday 06:30 to 20:00, and Saturday and Sunday from 07:00 until sunset.

Located 8.3 miles from the airport, the best way to get to the park is by taxi. Taxicabs are located on the arrival (ground) level of the airport, outside of the baggage claim areas.

Miami South Beach

Take advantage of the beautiful Miami weather and the close proximity of the airport to the ocean by spending your airport downtime on the famed Miami South Beach. The beach is a great spot to get some exercise or enjoy a calming experience to help relieve travel stress. Miami Beach is a south Florida island city, connected by bridges to mainland Miami and is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. If you decide to go for a dip in the ocean you can rinse off using the outdoor public showers at Lummus Park.

Getting to and from the beach can take some time so make sure you have a long enough layover to enjoy it. Always leave plenty of time to get back to the airport and through security before your next flight.

Located 11.4 miles from the airport. The quickest and easiest way to get there is by taxi. Alternatively, you can take the 150 EXP to South Beach bus from the Airport Station.

Head Downtown

The trip into Miami takes approximately 20 minutes however, depending the on the time of day traffic can be heavy so make sure you give yourself enough time to get back to the airport and through security before your connecting flight. Soak up the vibrant atmosphere at South Beach or if the beach is not your style check out the Art Deco Historic District.

Transport Options

MetroRail: The Metrorail is located at Miami Airport Station and you can get there by riding the MIA Mover. Trains depart every 30 minutes during the weekday, with more frequent service on the weekends every 15 minutes.

Board a Green Line train if you are traveling to Palmetto, Okeechobee, Hialeah, Tri-Rail, Northside, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. or Brownsville stations.

Board an Orange Line train if you are traveling to Dadeland North, South Miami, University, Douglas Road, Coconut Grove, Vizcaya, Brickell, Government Center, Historic Overtown/Lyric Theatre, Culmer, Civic Center, Santa Clara, Allapattah or Earlington Heights stations.

Miami Beach Bus: This service runs every 30 minutes from 06:00. – 23:40, seven days a week, between the Miami International Airport Metrorail station (just a short MIA Mover ride away from MIA) and Miami Beach (from 41st Street to South Pointe Drive). Tickets cost $2.25 each way.

Taxi: Taxicabs are located on the arrival (ground) level of the airport, outside of the baggage claim areas.

Overnight Layover at MIA
