The Meidai Zhao Monastery (about 70 km east) is a beautifully preserved late Ming Dynasty Tibetan Buddhist complex with Mongolian, Han, and Tibetan architectural elements — one of Inner Mongolia's most rewarding heritage sites. The Resonant Sand Bay (Xiangshawan, 50 km south) has large Gobi Desert dunes for sandboarding and camel rides. The Mongolian steppe grasslands are accessible north of the city.
