Airport security is getting more hands-free. TSA PreCheck Touchless ID allows eligible travelers at participating airports and airlines to verify their identity using facial recognition rather than handing an ID to the officer. It can streamline the PreCheck process—but there are a few things worth knowing before heading to the airport.
First, you have to opt in
Touchless ID isn't automatically activated just because you have TSA PreCheck. Eligible travelers generally need a current PreCheck membership, a valid passport, a participating airline profile, and their Known Traveler Number and passport information stored with the airline. Travelers then opt in through the participating airline, including where offered during check-in.Check your boarding pass
After check-in, look for the Touchless ID indicator on your boarding pass and follow signs for the appropriate lane at the airport. If you don't see it, don't assume you'll be able to use Touchless ID simply because the airport offers it. Participation depends on the airline, airport and your eligibility. The important hack: bring physical ID anyway
“Touchless” shouldn't mean “ID-less.” TSA's regular checkpoint rules still require adult travelers to have an acceptable form of identification, so check the current accepted-ID list before traveling. Even when Touchless ID is available, carry your physical ID or passport as a backup. Technology is wonderful right up until the moment it isn't.Use the time you save
A faster trip through security means more usable time on the other side. Instead of spending it at the gate, check whether you already have lounge access through your airline or credit card—or use Sanctifly to find and book lounge access.Sanctifly connects travelers with access to 1,500 airport lounges worldwide, with food, comfortable seating, Wi-Fi, charging and other amenities varying by location. The takeaway: Opt in. Check your boarding pass. Bring your ID anyway. Then make the rest of your airport time better.
