Changbaishan Airport serves the volcanic Changbai Mountain region on China's border with North Korea — home to Tianchi (Heaven Lake), a stunning caldera lake at 2,189 m that holds the deepest lake in China and is considered sacred in both Korean and Manchu cultures. The Changbai Mountain Scenic Area combines dramatic waterfalls, active geothermal hot springs, and subarctic forests of Korean pine and birch. The mountain is called Baekdu-san in Korean and figures prominently in Korean national mythology.
