Head downtown

If you have a longer layover, don’t spend it sitting in the airport, head into Moscow and explore the city. The city centre is located 28 miles from the airport, so it is a fair distance to travel in, however worth it if you have the time. Public transport routes will get you downtown from the airport in approx. one hour. Moscow is located on the Moskva River and is the nation’s cosmopolitan capital. Avoid downtown

If you have a longer layover but do not want to spend it in the city center, head to National Park Elk Island instead. Also known as Losiny Ostrov National Park, this is the second oldest national park in Russia and is the largest urban park in Europe. The total area of the park is 116.21 km² and offers so much to explore. The park is mostly covered with forests and has lots of hiking and walking trails for visitors to explore.Located 34 miles north of the airport and 6.8 miles north of downtown Moscow, the park is a fair distance to travel to. Transport Options

Bus: Bus 308 connects Domodedovo metro station to downtown Moscow. Catch the shuttle bus or express bus from the airport to the metro station and then catch the 308 from there. The journey will take approx. one hour in total.Taxi: There are many taxi kiosks available outside the airport terminal.
