Head downtown

If you have a 6+ hour layover at FLL, take advantage of your airport downtime and head into the city. Downtown Fort Lauderdale is located just 5.5 miles from the airport and is well connected via public transport links. Known for its vibrant nightlife and beautiful sandy beaches, Fort Lauderdale is a great place to spend a few hours and enjoy the Florida sunshine. Visit one of the many museums, restaurants or just spend your downtime relaxing on the beach. Avoid downtown

If you have a longer layover but don’t want to spend it in the city, instead spend your day kayaking at West Park Lake. The park is located 3.8 miles from the airport terminal and offers boat and kayak rental. Spend your layover exploring the lake and navigating the mangrove waterways and get a taste of the Everglades without venturing too far from the airport. The park also has several walking trails if you don’t feel like kayaking. The park is open daily from 08:00 – 19:30.

Transport Options

There are staffed Ground Transportation Booths located in each terminal. Staff will help you with any questions you have about transportation options to and from the airport and will help you get where you need to go.Bus: The airport is served by Route 1 on the Broward County Transit (BCT) service. This route will take you to downtown Fort Lauderdale in approx. 30 minutes. Catch the bus at the Rental Car Center. Train: Commuter train Tri-Rail provides service to Miami-Dade County, Broward County, and Palm Beach County. There are free shuttle buses from the FLL terminals to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Station where you can catch the train to surrounding areas.

Overnight Layover?

If you have an overnight layover at FLL and want to get a good night's sleep there are many options available to you near the airport. The Crowne Plaza Ft Lauderdale Airport is located 8 minutes from the airport ad provides a free 24-hour shuttle bus to and from the airport. The Comfort Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport is also located 8 minutes from the airport and provides guests with a free shuttle bus between 05:00 – 00:00.

  • Terminal 3, in the Baggage Claim Area (Lower Level). Open Fri-Mon from 09:00 – 17:30.
  • Terminal 4, in the Baggage Claim Area (Lower Level). Open Fri-Mon from 09:00 – 17:30.
