Head downtown

If you have a 6+ hour layover at HEL, take advantage of your downtime and head into the city. Helsinki is located 12.4 miles from the airport and is well connected via public transport links with train lines running every 10 minutes. Helsinki is a vibrant city sitting on Finland's jagged coastline. The beautiful architecture, laid back atmosphere and friendly locals make Helsinki the perfect place to spend your airport layover. Avoid downtown

The Nordic countries are well known for their breathtaking, rugged landscapes and Finland is no different. If you have a longer layover but don’t want to spend it in the city head west from the airport to Sipoonkorpi National Park and enjoy the Finnish landscape. This peaceful park has dense forests, waterways, lakes and hiking trails for you to explore and enjoy.Located 11.4 miles from the airport. The quickest and easiest way to get there is by taxi. There are no direct public transport routes from the airport to the park.

Transport Options

Bus: Finnair City Bus connects the airport to downtown Helsinki. Bus routes 415, 561, 615 and 617 will get you from the airport to different parts of the city. Overnight Layover?

If you have an overnight layover at HEL and want to get a good night's sleep there are many options available to you at and near the airport. The GLO Hotel is located in the airport terminal and offers all the luxuries of a modern hotel without leaving the airport building. Day rooms are also available if you want to rest and freshen up before your flight. The hotel is located on the basement floor (floor P) of Terminal 2, below Arrivals hall 2B. The Hotel Hilton Helsinki Airport and the Scandic Helsinki Airport are both located next to the Terminal 2 building and offer some extra amenities to guests such as a gym and sauna.
