Head downtown
If you have a longer layover at Daniel K. Inouye International airport, why not take the opportunity to explore Honolulu? The city centre is located just 5.3 miles from the airport and is well connected via public transport links (see transport options below). Spend your day soaking up the atmosphere and the beautiful views of this ocean side city. Make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to the airport and through security before your next flight.Avoid downtown
If you have a layover at HNL but don’t want to spend it in the city, use it to explore the gorgeous scenery surrounding the airport. There are lots of national parks and hiking trails within a few miles of the airport. Grab a taxi from the terminal to the start of the Moanalua Valley Trail, just 5 miles from the airport and enjoy an invigorating hike surrounded by the beautiful landscape of Hawaii.Transport Options
Bus: Routes 19, 20 and 31 connect the airport to the surrounding area. The number 19 will take you direct to downtown Honolulu in approach 30 minutes. Catch the bus from outside the departures area.Shuttle: The Roberts Hawaii Speed Shuttle takes passengers from the airport to a number of destinations throughout the city. One way trips start from $16 per person.Taxi: Taxis are available in front of the baggage claim areas. A baggage charge of 50 cents per bag applies.Overnight Layover?
If you have an overnight layover at HNL and want to get a good night’s sleep, there are many hotel options available within a few minutes of the airport. The closest option is Airport Honolulu Hotel which is a 5-minute walk from the airport. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to the airport for passengers with a lot of baggage.
