Head downtown

If you have a 6+ hour layover at FCO, take advantage of your downtime and head into the city. Downtown Rome is located 19.3 miles from the airport and is well via public transport links. Rome is an iconic city, steeped in history and culture. Spend your day visiting ancient architecture and many museums throughout Rome or, for a more relaxed layover, stop by an authentic Italian café and bask in the laid back atmosphere of this vibrant city. Avoid downtown

If you have a longer layover but don’t want to spend it in the city, head to Riserva Naturale Statale del Litorale Romano, a nature reserve located 9 miles from the airport instead. The park offers cycling and hiking trails, forests and dunes and lots of historical archaeological sites for you to explore.

Transport Options

Train: The Leonardo Express is a non-stop service between Fiumicino Airport and Rome Termini train station, with departures every 30 min. Bus: The airport is well connected to the surrounding area via several bus routes. For more details on fares, schedules and routes visit the airport website.

Overnight Layover?

If you have an overnight layover at FCO and want to get a good night's sleep there are many options available to you at and near the airport.
