The airport is located 11.3 miles (18.2 km) from the city centre and is well connected via public transport links. Spend your layover exploring the city and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of Madrid. Always make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to the airport and through security before your next flight.

Transport Options

Train: The C1 line directly connects MAD to downtown Madrid, with travel time taking approx. 20 minutes. Catch the train from Terminal 4 at the airport.Bus: Several bus routes are connecting the airport to the surrounding areas. Line 203 offers passengers a direct connection between the airport and Atocha Train Station in central Madrid. The bus service operates 24/7.Taxi: Taxis can be found outside the arrivals area of all terminals. It is advised only to take rides in official taxis, which are white with a red stripe and the coat-of-arms of Madrid City Council on the doors.

Overnight Layover?

If you have an overnight layover and want to get a good night’s sleep at MAD, there are lots of options available. If you don’t want to leave the airport; you can rent a guest room with private bathroom and shower at the Air Room. Located in the public area in Terminal 4, Air Rooms offers overnight and day room rental.There are lots of hotels located close to the airport. The Madrid Airport website provides a list of local hotel and details on which ones offer a complimentary shuttle bus for guests.
