Head downtown
If you have a longer layover at Indira Gandhi International Airport, take advantage of your travel downtime and use it to explore New Delhi. The airport is located 7.2 miles from the city center and is well connected via public transport routes. New Delhi is a historic city with a modern twist. Avoid downtown
If you have a longer layover but don’t want to spend it downtown, there are many great historical landmarks and beautiful gardens located south of the city. The Sultan Ghari is an archaeological site of a 1231 AD Islamic Mausoleum, located just 4.4 miles from the airport. Or visit the Jahaz Maha, a historical palace located just 7.4 miles from the airport. There are many opportunities for travelers to enjoy India’s ancient culture while on a layover at DEL.
Transport Options
Metro/Airport Express: The Delhi Metro links the Delhi Airport and New Delhi. Catch the Airport Express Line and get from the airport to the center of New Delhi in 25 minutes. Bus: Bus routes are the most common way to travel around the city and to and from the airport. Catch the airport shuttle bus to the ‘staging area’ outside the Centaur Hotel and from there you can catch several bus services to take you to the city or the surrounding areas.
Overnight Layover?
If you have an overnight layover at DEL and want to get a good night’s sleep, check into the Holiday Inn Express New Delhi International Airport.
