Head downtown
If you have a longer layover at SVO, take advantage of your time and head into Moscow to explore. The airport is located 17.6 miles north of the city and is well connected via public transport routes. Moscow is located on the Moskva River and is the nation’s cosmopolitan capital. Steeping in history and culture, the city offers attractions for all interests. Avoid downtown
If you have a longer layover but do not want to spend it in the city center, head to National Park Elk Island instead. Also known as Losiny Ostrov National Park, this is the second oldest national park in Russia and is the largest urban park in Europe. The total area of the park is 116.21 km² and offers so much to explore. The park is mostly covered with forests and has lots of hiking and walking trails for visitors to explore. The park is located 20.5 miles from the airport. There are no direct public transport routes so your best option is to grab a taxi from the terminal to head to the park.
Transport Options
Bus: The Aeroexpress bus line connect SVO to Belorussky Railway Terminal in Moscow. The service runs every 30min from 06:00 – 23:35. Travel time into the city is approx. 50 minutes. Fares start from 399₽ (approx. $6USD).Taxi: Yandex Taxi operates taxi services to and from SVO. A taxi from the center of Moscow to the airport is approx. 1000₽ (approx. $14USD) however fares vary depending on distance, time of day and demand. You can order a taxi on the airport website.
Overnight Layover?
If you have an overnight layover at SVO and want to get a good night’s sleep, head to one of the many hotel and sleep options available at the airport. This hotel is connect to the airport via a walkway located on the 3rd floor between terminals D, E and F. Alternatively you can had to Novotel Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, located just a 5 minute walk from the airport terminal. The hotel offers guests a free 24 hour shuttle bus.
