Head downtown
If you have a 6+ hour layover, make the most of your time and go explore St. Louis. The city center is located 17.1 miles from the airport and is connected via the MLR Red Line. St. Louis is a major city in Missouri along the Mississippi River and is a must-visit destination for BBQ and Blues lovers. Visit the iconic Gateway arch, explore the many galleries and museums or spend your layover soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of the city. For those that have a longer layover but don’t want to spend it in the city, there are lots of great parks in the surrounding areas. Spend your layover enjoying nature and fresh air. Hickory Woods Conservation Area (as mentioned in the 3-6 hour airport guide) is a great option if you don’t want to venture too far from the airport. If you want a bit more adventure head to Saint Stanislaus Conservation Area. Located 11.7 miles from the airport, this natural area is located on the banks of the Missouri River and offers hiking trails, bird watching and fishing activities. Going for a hike in beautiful surroundings is a great way to spend a layover! You will need to get a taxi to the nature preserve as there are no public transport routes available.Transport Options
Train: The MetroLink light rail system connects the airport to downtown St. Louis as well as several municipalities in the surrounding area. There is a Metro Link station in Terminal 1, at Exist Door 1 and in Terminal 2, at Exit Door 12.Bus: The local MetroBus also connects the airport to the surrounding area. Bus services run from the BusPort, located to the south of Terminal 1. There is a 24 complimentary shuttle that takes passengers from the terminals to the BusPort. If you have an overnight layover at STL and want to get a good night sleep there are many options available to you near the airport. The Marriott St. Louis Airport and the Drury Inn Airport St. Louis are both full-service hotels with gyms and swimming pools located with 600m of the airport.
