Head downtown

If you have a 6+ hour layover at ARN, don't spend it in the airport. Use the opportunity to head into Stockholm and explore the city. Downtown Stockholm is located 24 miles from the airport and is well connected via public transport links. You can get from the airport to the central station in Stockholm in less that 20 minutes. Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and includes 14 islands and more than 50 bridges. Take a sightseeing boat through the canals and explore the islands or spend your day wandering the cobblestone streets and enjoying the friendly atmosphere of the city. Avoid downtown

If you have a longer layover but don’t want to spend it in the city, head north from the airport to Upplandsleden instead. Enjoy the stunning beauty of the Swedish natural landscape as you explore this 50 km trail that winds along the bank of Lake Mälaren. The trail is divided into different stages and loops so you can pick a section to complete during your layover. Upplandsleden is located 21 miles from the airport. The quickest and easiest way to get there is via taxi. Public transport routes are available. Use Google maps to plan your route and make sure to leave plenty of time to get back to the airport and through security.Remember to always make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to the airport and through security before your next flight.

Transport Options

Train: The train is the fastest way to get from the airport to downtown Stockholm. The Arlanda Express is a high-speed train that runs a non-stop route between Stockholm Central Station and Arlanda Airport. The trip takes approx. 20 minutes.Bus: The Air Shuttle travels from the airport the City Terminal Bus Station in approx. 35 minutes. Bus stops are located outside Terminal 5.

Overnight Layover?

If you have an overnight layover at ARN and want to get a good night's sleep there are many options available to you at the airport. The Clarion Hotel Arlanda Airport and the Radisson Blu Airport Terminal Hotel are both located at the airport and offer overnight travelers the luxuries of a full service hotel with having to leave the terminal. For those that want a more budget friend option, the Rest and Fly located in Sky City (between Terminal 4 & 5) is a great option.
